How do I actually get to the island?

You can’t drive directly to the lodge. You’ll head to the overland base in Kangulumira (about 45 minutes from Jinja). From there, the lodge team picks you up in a motorized boat for a 10-minute crossing to Kalagala Island.

What is the latest time I can arrive?

The last boat transfer is at 5:30 PM. Because you’re crossing a powerful section of the Nile, the lodge does not do boat transfers after dark for safety reasons. If you’re coming from Kampala, aim to leave by 1:00 PM to account for traffic.

Is there WiFi on the island?

Yes, there is free WiFi in the main lodge area. However, because of the thick forest and the remote island location, the connection is better suited for checking emails or sending a few photos than for heavy streaming or video calls.

Do I need to worry about mosquitoes?

Like any riverine forest area in Uganda, mosquitoes are present. The rooms are well-protected with heavy-duty nets, and the lodge provides repellent, but it’s still a good idea to wear long sleeves in the evenings.
