Lemala Wild Waters Lodge Jinja: The Ultimate Private Island Retreat.
Located on the lush Kalangala Island, Lemala Wild Waters Lodge Jinja is not just a hotel; it’s a geographical event. Surrounded by Grade 5 rapids, the lodge is reached only by boat, ensuring total seclusion from the mainland. Here, the “French zest” for life meets the wild heart of Uganda, creating an atmosphere that is both pulse-racing and profoundly calm.
Lemala Wild Waters Lodge Jinja: The Destination

The first thing you notice about Lemala Wild Waters Lodge isn’t the architecture or the luxury; it’s the sound. You leave your car at the mainland base in Kangulumira and board a small boat to cross a calm stretch of the Victoria Nile.
The epitome of indulgence and relaxation is quite literally at your doorstep. Surrounded by the rhythmic surge of the Nile, surrender to a sense of total calm at the Lemala Wild Waters Spa, where guests are invited to book a signature massage and enjoy the restorative views from our open-air treatment deck.

What to Expect Inside the Suites at Lemala Wild Waters Lodge Jinja.Whether you are seeking a cinematic retreat with your significant other, a milestone stay with loved ones, or a reflective solo getaway, discover more with our Signature Infinity Pool—a still-water oasis carved into the natural granite, overlooking the Grade 5 rapids. Our host of island activities includes guided morning birdwatching through the ancient canopy, sunset kayaking on the calmer channels, and direct access to the world-renowned adventure trails of Kalagala Falls.
But as you approach Kalagala Island, the hum of the rapids begins to take over. By the time you step onto the wooden jetty, the roar of the river is constant. It’s a heavy, rhythmic sound that reminds you exactly where you are: on a private island in the middle of the Nile’s wildest rapids.
Discover the highlights

The Infinity Pool
The pool water at Lemala Wild Waters Lodge Jinja is completely still, creating a strange but beautiful contrast against the chaotic, fast-moving river right beside it. Dinner is served in an open-sided thatched area, so you’re always in contact with the river air.

The Walk way
Lemala Wild Waters Lodge Jinja is built directly into a thick riverine forest, and the design respects that. Instead of paved paths, everything is connected by elevated wooden boardwalks.

The Art of Sleep
To ensure our guests enjoy a blissful night of rest and rejuvenation, Lemala Wild Waters Lodge Jinja has private resorts for every visitor at the Hotel. Privacy is priority here.
Inside the Lemala Wild Waters Lodge Jinja Suites: Canvas, Thatch, and River Mist
The suites are built with thick canvas walls under heavy thatched roofs, which allows the sounds of the night to drift in without making you feel exposed.
The rooms are furnished with solid, heavy-timber furniture and massive beds, but the real highlight is the private deck. Each one has a standalone bathtub facing the river.

Why Visit Lemala Wild waters as your Vacation Place.
While the island feels like a retreat, it’s also the center of Jinja’s adventure scene. You’re minutes away from some of the best white-water rafting and bungee jumping spots in the world, including Kalagala and Itanda Falls.
If you prefer something slower, you can spend the morning birdwatching in the forest or kayaking on the flatter sections of the river. It’s a good balance ; you can spend the morning in high-adrenaline rapids and the afternoon in a quiet spa treatment on the island.

Frequently Asked Questions: Lemala Wild Waters Lodge
How do I actually get to the island?
You can’t drive directly to the lodge. You’ll head to the overland base in Kangulumira (about 45 minutes from Jinja). From there, the lodge team picks you up in a motorized boat for a 10-minute crossing to Kalagala Island.
What is the latest time I can arrive?
The last boat transfer is at 5:30 PM. Because you’re crossing a powerful section of the Nile, the lodge does not do boat transfers after dark for safety reasons. If you’re coming from Kampala, aim to leave by 1:00 PM to account for traffic.
Is there WiFi on the island?
Yes, there is free WiFi in the main lodge area. However, because of the thick forest and the remote island location, the connection is better suited for checking emails or sending a few photos than for heavy streaming or video calls.
Do I need to worry about mosquitoes?
Like any riverine forest area in Uganda, mosquitoes are present. The rooms are well-protected with heavy-duty nets, and the lodge provides repellent, but it’s still a good idea to wear long sleeves in the evenings.
