In the village of Nshora Nyarusiza, on a hillside that
faces a volcano, Imbogo Diners and Lounge was
built from the ground itself. The walls of this
boutique lodge are hand-crafted volcanic stone — the
same dark, rough-hewn
material the Bafumbira people used for centuries to
build homes that sat low in the landscape and lasted.
What they built around those walls is something else entirely.
Rope-hung pendant lights over African woven baskets. King-
size beds against volcanic stone. A garden so deliberately
planted that it frames the summit of Mount Muhabura
through a gap in the hedgerow as though that was always the
intention which, when you look at it, clearly was.
Four executive suites. Full board. A campfire in the evenings
when the temperature drops and the banana trees go still. This
is not a large property. That is the point. Everything here is
considered, personal, and when the morning light comes
through the curtains onto terracotta floors — quietly
beautiful.

cross on the bookshelf — every object is
